| The S: directory is the starting point of the Amiga's boot as it
contains the script files required to turn the computer from the
drab insert a disk screen into a powerful graphical operating
system. The directory contains a number of files that, in
no-technical terms tell the Amiga what to do. These are sometimes
called startup files. The basic workbench disk contains the following script
files, File Function Dpat: - Internal commands for the Shell. These
increase the flexibility of the Shell program, providing uses such
as Shell History. ED-Startup: - Contains the configuration file
for the text editor, ED. PCD: - The script that enables the Shell to
remember the previous directory. Shell-startup: - The preference file for the
Shell. Startup-Sequence: - The startup script that
tells the Amiga what to do when a disk is inserted on boot up. This
is the same as the AUTOEXEC.BAT file on PC.Back to Workbench 3.0/1 guide
