This is quite a common problem on the Amiga, and is most common with Seagate and Conner hard drives. The problem is that the hard drive has problems with the Amigas reset signal. It is allegedly possible to cure this using a patch called A1200 HDPatch, which can be found on Aminet in the directory Util/Boot/. Alternatively, it can be found at your local PD library.
