Is there anyway that I can alter the size of requester so that it is fixed when I open a directory?

It depends on the software you are using, if the application uses MUI then you can easily change it using the MUI preferences. If you use the standard ASL requesters you have a number of options. You could try the ASL Patch written by Marcin Orlowski and Miloslaw Smyk. This is available from Aminet and upgrades the version number to 42.0. Alternatively, there is SetASLDim. located in the util/boot/SetASLDim.lha on Aminet. This is for Kickstart 2.04+
